Clinical Support for
Common Bone Disorders

What works for one person with osteopenia/osteoporosis may not be safe or effective for another individual with the same condition. Each person’s bone health journey is distinct, influenced by factors such as age, overall health, medical history, and lifestyle.

Osteopenia & Osteoporosis: Primary & Secondary

Bone Health Assessment Beyond DXA Scans

At Nordica Health, we assess bone health using more than bone density alone. While a DXA scan measures bone density, it does not fully predict fracture risk. More than 50% of first-time low-trauma fractures occur in people with osteopenia, not osteoporosis as per DXA score. This shows that bone strength and fracture risk are influenced by multiple factors, not density alone.

What We Assess & Understanding Your Diagnosis

Our focus is on understanding your whole risk profile, including balance, muscle strength, previous falls or fractures, medications, and lifestyle factors, such as current and previous exercise experience and volume. We create a plan that truly reflects you, not just your scan result.

Osteoporosis simply means your bones are more prone to fracture, not that they’re fragile beyond hope. With the right loading, movement, and support, bones can adapt and strengthen at any age.

While we review your DXA scan and medical background, our main goal is to help you improve your quality of life, by building strength, restoring confidence, improve balance, and supporting your independence through safe, evidence-supported exercise.

How We Help

We work with both primary osteoporosis (age-related or post-menopausal bone loss) and secondary osteoporosis (bone loss caused by other medical conditions, medications, or treatments such as cancer therapy).

At Nordica Health, our Exercise Physiologists specialise in designing individualised programs that include resistance and impact training, pacing strategies, and modifications suited to your risk level. We’ll guide you every step of the way to move safely, prevent fractures, and stay strong for life.

Fracture Care

Support After A Fall or Low-Trauma Fracture

A fracture can turn life upside down. Everyday tasks can suddenly feel uncertain, and confidence in movement may take time to rebuild. At Nordica Health, we’re here to support you through that process, helping you recover safely, regain strength, and restore trust in your body.

What We Assess & Understanding Your Injury

We have extensive experience working with people following low-trauma fractures, such as those sustained from a simple fall or minor impact. Body areas may include vertebral, wrist, ankle and hip fractures. Our clinicians understand the physical and emotional challenges that come with recovery and tailor care to your unique situation.

Your program begins with a thorough assessment of your fracture history, bone health, pain, and function.

How We Help

Personalised, evidence-based rehabilitation.

We then guide you through safe, progressive exercise designed to improve mobility, rebuild muscle strength, enhance balance, and reduce the risk of future falls or fractures.

Beyond recovery, preventing what’s next fracture care at Nordica Health extends beyond the initial healing phase. We address the underlying factors contributing to fracture risk – from bone density, musculoskeletal strength, balance, and to confidence and daily movement patterns. Some clients transition from Fracture Care into our Onero™ programs to continue strengthening their bones and protecting long-term independence.

At Nordica Health, recovery isn’t just about mending a bone – it’s about restoring your confidence, capability, and quality of life.

Arthritis/Joint Care

Restoring Mobility, Pain Management And Quality Of Life

Living with arthritis or joint pain can make everyday activities feel challenging. With the right guidance, movement can become a powerful part of your recovery. At Nordica Health, we provide personalised exercise programs to support joint health, manage pain, and improve mobility and confidence.

What We Assess

Our clinicians work with people experiencing osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other degenerative or inflammatory joint conditions, as well as those preparing for or recovering from joint replacement surgery.

Your program begins with an assessment of your joint condition, function, pain, and goals.

How We Help

Personalised care for every stage.

We tailor your exercise prescription to your current ability, and preferences. Whether your focus is on improving joint function, finding ways to exercise with your limitations, or if you are preparing for surgery, or regaining strength and mobility after an operation.

Evidence-based for sustainable progress. Our approach emphasises progressive, joint-friendly strength and mobility training, education, and pacing strategies to promote confidence and long-term self-management. We work closely with your medical team and, where appropriate, incorporate hydrotherapy, balance, and functional exercise to support your recovery.

At Nordica Health, we believe in the power of movement. Exercise is medicine, and motion is lotion – helping you move with confidence and live with greater ease every day.

Common Questions Clients Ask About Our Bone Care Clinic

Bones respond best to strong, targeted, and safe loading. The research shows three forms of exercise are most effective for bone health:

  • High-intensity resistance training – progressed gradually according to your risk profile
→ This is the strongest stimulus for bone growth.
  • Impact exercise - progressed gradually according to your risk profile
→ Compression of bone tissue + vibration of bone fluid activates our bone building cells
  • Balance training
→ Improves stability, confidence, and reduces the risk of falls

Activities like walking, swimming, Pilates, or light weights are excellent for general health, but they’re not enough on their own to improve or maintain bone density. That’s why our program uses evidence-based resistance and impact training designed specifically to strengthen your bones safely.

Resistance training – when done appropriately, it places controlled stress on your bones. This stimulates bone cells to remodel, adapt, and become stronger - similar to how muscle responds to strength training. High-intensity resistance exercise has the strongest evidence for improving or maintaining bone mineral density (BMD), especially at the spine and hip.

For bone health, research recommends 2–3 sessions per week of targeted resistance and impact training following evidence-based protocols like Onero™. General walking or light weights are great for overall health but are not sufficient to stimulate bone growth. Consistency matters for adaptations to occur.

Right here. Our clinicians specialise in supporting beginners, older adults, and people with health concerns. We start with a full assessment, teach you the foundations at your own pace, and build confidence before progressing to heavier or impact-based exercise. No prior experience needed.

Not at all. Nordica is nothing like a commercial gym.
We are a boutique, allied-health gym and clinic designed specifically for people who want a quieter, safer, more supportive space.

Our environment is:

  • calm and welcoming
  • free from mirrors and loud music
  • equipped with simple, evidence-based strength equipment (no big gym machines)
  • designed for people with osteoporosis, pain, neurological conditions, and those who prefer a more personalised approach

Everyone here is focused on their health - not performance, aesthetics, or gym culture.

If you already attend a gym, we can absolutely design a plan to complement your current routine. If you prefer to avoid busy commercial gyms, our boutique setup will feel comfortable, safe, and encouraging.

Onero™ is an evidence-based, fidelity-controlled program, and must be completed in-clinic with a trained practitioner. This keeps you safe and ensures the program is delivered exactly as tested in research.
However, we can design a home-based or gym-based bone strength program that follows general Exercise Physiology guidelines. We work with whatever equipment you have available and tailor a program that improves your strength, balance, and overall health – in which is safe for you to complete unsupervised according to your risk profile.

Yes - most people with musculoskeletal limitations can safely participate. We always assess your mobility, pain irritability, and confidence first, and tailor the progression to your comfort. Strength training is one of the most effective ways to support tissue health and tolerance, and can in some cases help with reducing persistent pain.

Yes. Exercise is one of the safest and most effective tools for recovery – if done correctly. We will assess all your risk factors, fracture site, stage of healing, and current strength to design a safe starting point. Strengthening your bones and muscles, and improving your balance is a crucial step to reducing future fracture risk.

Bone adapts slowly - any new bone takes time to mineralise and show up on a scan. Most people are referred for a repeat Bone Density Test every 12–24 months, depending on their risk profile and their doctor’s recommendations.
You’ll notice many improvements well before your next scan – including improved strength, confidence, ability to complete tasks with more ease that may have been challenging in the past, improved bodily pains, and overall sense of wellbeing. We regularly track changes in your strength, functional capacity, balance, confidence, and exercise progressions throughout your bone health journey.

About 80% of people respond positively to high-intensity bone training. Even if your DXA numbers don’t change, many people experience:

  • Improved strength
  • Improved confidence
  • Improved quality of life
  • Better balance and fewer falls
  • Reduced pain and stiffness
  • Ability to do more in daily life

All of these reduce your long-term fracture risk.

Food is fuel for your bones. Adequate protein, calcium, and vitamin D are essential for bone modelling and repair. We work with dietitians who can review your intake and make sure your nutrition supports your bone training.

No referral is needed - you can book privately at any time.
If you’re eligible, your visits can also be funded through a GP Management Plan, WorkCover, DVA, NDIS, Home Care Package, or private health insurance.
